Art Greenhaw has devoted his entire life to music, from his earliest days at the piano at age three to his award-winning career as a musician, producer, and advocate for music making. The son of a gospel music director and band leader, Art grew up surrounded by instruments and song. His family operated a music store from 1943 to 1997—selling instruments, hardware, and even the first RCA color TV in the Texas area—and became a leading Rickenbacker dealer in the 1980s. Hired as a teenager by George Miller, Art began performing with the Light Crust Doughboys in 1983 and became a full member of the legendary band in 1993, continuing a tradition that dates back to the 1930s. A Grammy Award winner in 2002, he has recorded with Nokie Edwards, Trini Lopez, and Ann-Margret. As founder of Art Greenhaw Music, Iand Art Greenhaw Records, he remains deeply committed to promoting musical instruments and inspiring others to make music.

The Light Crust Doughboys
Founded by western swing
legend Bob Wills in Fort Worth in 1931, The light Crust Doughboys were
originally sponsored by Burrus Mill, the maker of Light Crust Flour.
Often called the longest-running band in Texas, the Doughboys have
survived not only the passage of time and generations but also changing
tastes in musical styles and formats, from 78 rpm records to compact
discs and digital downloads. Though the group’s best-known announcer, W.
Lee “Pappy” O’Daniel, later became a Texas governor and U.S. senator,
he once said that his greatest legacy would be The Light Crust
Doughboys.
In 1983, musician and producer Art Greenhaw
booked the Doughboys to play at the Mesquite Folk Festival, which
Greenhaw had founded. He became excited about the prospects for reviving
the band, which had been working only sporadically for several years.
In 1993, Greenhaw joined the group as bassist; and as co-producer, he
added horns to its sound, bringing about a new type of "country jazz"
influenced by the old swing sound. In 1995, the Texas Legislature
declared the Doughboys the "official music ambassadors of the Lone Star
State"; and they continue to perform today.

Comments
They passed some laws to stop Santa Claus
from riding in his sleigh
There will be no toys for the girls and boys
this Christmas day
They’re trying to cancel Christmas
That is just not right
It will be a silent Christmas night
Chorus
Silence in the night; no bells are ringing
Silence in the night; no one is singing
No Christmas songs, no trees, no lights
The reindeer will not take flight
It will be a silent Christmas night
V2
The lights are out all over town
Red and green have turned to gray
It gives me pause to think that laws
take God away
We will say goodbye to freedoms
If we don’t put up a fight
It will be a silent Christmas night
Chorus
Silence in the night; no bells are ringing
Silence in the night; no one is singing
No Christmas songs, no trees, no lights
The reindeer will not take flight
It will be a silent Christmas night
Bridge
The little drummer boy will be sad that he can’t play
No rum pa pum pum pum pum, no wise men on their way
No gold, no frankincense, no myrrh
No star of Bethlehem
To herald Jesus’ birth
Chorus
Silence in the night; no bells are ringing
Silence in the night; no one is singing
No Christmas songs, no trees, no lights
The reindeer will not take flight
It will be a silent Christmas night
Outro
Silent night, holy night
It will be a silent Christmas night
